So Much for Possibility Thinking

October 28th, 2008 by Pastor | No Comments | Filed in Bible, War on Truth

This is a post from Albert Mohler’s blog about Robert Schuller and his son’s “schism.”

So Much for Possibility Thinking

Bad news must be especially hard to bear when you build your world on positive thinking, but the news out of Garden Grover this past Sunday was not happy.  Robert H. Schuller, founder of the Crystal Cathedral and the “Hour of Power” television ministry, announced that he had removed his son, Robert A. Schuller, as host of the television ministry.

“It is no secret to any of you that my son, Robert, and I have been struggling as we each have different ideas as to the direction and the vision for this ministry as we move into the future,” the elder Schuller stated in a statement published on the church’s Web site.  “For this lack of shared vision and the jeopardy in which this is placing this entire ministry, it has become necessary for Robert and me to part ways in the Hour of Power television ministry to each pursue our own unique God-ordained visions.”

When the father said that the rift with his son was “no secret,” he was presumably referring to the fact that the son had been strangely absent from the broadcast as its main preacher.  In 2006, the elder Schuller had announced that Robert A. Schuller would take over as senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral and as main preacher for the television program.  “I am not retiring,” the father had said, but he was leaving the main role of preacher to his son.

This is from Brother Ron Maggard’s blog, “Let Us Go Into The Next Towns.” It is great to see the Lord move in the lives of people.

Baptism Of Manuel Tziqui Xum

Last Friday night I met with Jorge Gomez, our co-pastor and the young man in the picture.  Manuel Xum has been coming to our church for the last year.  In one of our services he trusted Christ.  Since that day, by his own testimony, his life was changed forever.  He started to faithfully attend all the services.  He began to read his Bible.  He began to be careful about his friends.  He began to enjoy serving the Lord.  He wanted to be baptized.  So this past week we had the priveledge and joy of seeing Manuel follow the Lord in baptism.

Manuel is from a small village near Xohola, Guatemala.  I have visited Xohola a number of times.  It is not far from out mission work in Xejuyup.  Manuel really wants to grow in his relationship with Christ.  Pray for him.

Our First Night of BOOT Camp!

July 29th, 2008 by Pastor | No Comments | Filed in Children's Ministry

Praise the Lord for a wonderful first night of Vacation Bible School. We had 56 precious children here to hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and enjoy the good time. I am so thankful for all the ones who have put in so much work, and for those who are continuing to do so. If you are unable to help us this week at VBS, will you pray that God will strengthen us, that He will give us the words to say to these kids, and that His Holy Spirit would touch and change little hearts this week?

If you have nothing to do this evening, you might want to come by and see the opening exercises. It is worth the price of admission. Actually, it’s worth a lot more because the price of admission is free!

Rapidan Closing Program

June 23rd, 2008 by Pastor | No Comments | Filed in Children's Ministry, Family Life, video

Below is a video clip of the closing program at Camp Rapidan last week. The campers were divided into two teams, the Crusaders & the Raiders. The team with the most points at the end of camp won, and their opponents’ castle would be destroyed. It is hard to hear the speaker for the fun screams of the campers, but this will give you an idea of the fun the kids had.

We showed this video in the Sunday night Service on 6-22. Below you can find a pdf version of the presentation of the camp pictures.
