What Is An Independent Baptist Church?

On this page we will try to explain what constitues an Independent Baptist Church, and why we think that it is important. We hope this page will be helpful to you.

Again, if you have more questions, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Independent

By “Independent” we mean:

  • We are an autonomous congregation. As such, this congregation functions directly under Christ’s leadership.
  • We are not affiliated with, nor do we take direction or orders from any Denominational office or board.
  • Every financial & spiritual decision is made by the congregation of Grace Baptist Church without outside influence.
  • Although independent, we declare our dependence upon the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Head of this church.

Baptist

The best way to describe a Baptist is to describe what a Baptist believes. This can be done with the following acrostic.

B The BIBLE - our sole standard for belief and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
A The AUTONOMY of each local assembly. (1 Timothy 3:15)
P The PRIESTHOOD of every Believer. (Revelation 1:5-6)
T Two ORDINANCES of the Church: Baptism & The Lord’s Supper (Acts 2:41-42)
I INDIVIDUAL Soul Liberty (1 John 2:27)
S SAVED Church Membership (Acts 2:42, 47)
T TWO Offices (Pastor & Deacons) (Philippians 1:1)
S SEPARATION of Church and State (Matthew 22:21)

Church

A local church is a called-out assembly of Believers in Christ, who have been Scripturally baptized by immersion, and covenant together to follow Christ.
The local church is God’s agency for reaching the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
